Augmented Reality (AR) and History Combined
Looking for an exciting weekend activity? Immerse yourself in the history of the American Revolution right here in East Hampton with the innovative “augmented reality” tour available through the 1776AR cellphone app. This unique experience is free, thanks to the generosity of the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation.
How to Get Started
First, download the 1776AR app from the Apple App Store for iPhone users or the Google Play Store for Android users. After downloading, head over to Mulford Farm. Open the app and follow the easy instructions to transport yourself back to the Revolutionary era. The app is optimized for smartphones three years old or newer, and while it also functions on tablets, using a cellphone will provide the best experience. For an enhanced audio experience, we recommend using headphones.
What to Expect
Narrated by Village and Town Historian Hugh King, the 1776AR app vividly recounts the significant contributions of Colonel David Mulford in the events leading up to the Battle of Long Island in 1776 and the subsequent British occupation. As you explore Mulford Farm, the app will guide you to six engraved stones that act as QR codes, each unlocking a new chapter of the Mulfords’ Revolutionary War story. This engaging tour is available even when the farmhouse itself is closed, ensuring you can always delve into history.
